From its beginnings, the Carmona family has had a strong connection with academia, training, and education.

Their vocation has been to facilitate better job opportunities for students in technical careers. With this goal, Fundación Despega was founded in 2017, a non-profit organization created by the founder of Drillco®, Rolando Carmona Barraza, and led by his second son, Rodrigo Carmona Gómez.

FUNDACIÓN DESPEGAThe goal of Fundación Despega is to support students in technical careers in their job insertion process, reducing the gap between technical and professional careers by improving the employability skills of its participants and impacting an increase in the country's productivity.

In partnership with DUOC UC, the largest professional institute in Chile, with more than 100,000 students across its 17 campuses around the country, the Foundation provides Mentoring Programs for students in technical careers. Aiming to improve students’ employability, the internships allow the development of multiple skills among participants, including Leadership, Oral Expression, and Mining Environment.

Each semester, 6 students from various careers in DUOC UC are selected to participate in the Mentoring Program, where they attend workshops in Productivity, Leadership, Business Management, Globalization and English classes. Rodrigo Carmona, Partner and director at Drillco®, and President of Fundación Despega, states “Our aim is to give the students additional abilities and tools to improve and ease their transition to the workspace”.

The mentored develop improvement projects on site at Drillco®, working together with the teams and presenting their final thesis to the Board. Felipe Morales, Machines and Heavy Vehicles Engineer Student, declares “I’m inspired by this mentoring program and looking forward to gain practical knowledge that will make me a well-prepared professional”.
