The beginning
In 1948, a young Rolando Carmona Barraza, a Mining Engineer and employee of the Tamaya Mining Company, was assigned the mission of discovering a new mine at the end of the world.
Their mission was successful: they managed to operate a mine in this area, establishing a town of the same name and starting a family with three children.
The Drillco® company was born
Its goal is to develop technology- based innovations through the processes involved in drilling.
The company customizes for the demanding mining industry in the country, primarily located in the Andes Mountain Range. Among the challenges facing the industry is the remote and often high-altitude operation sites, frequently above 4000 meters above sea level.
Additionally, the geology of our mountain range involves dealing with hard rock, fragmentation and abrasiveness. All of this necessitated adapting the design to the demanding operating conditions, resulting in high-quality and high-performance products.
Puma by Drillco®
The legacy of the Andes Mountains has left an indelible mark on our journey.
Our primary consumables brand, Puma by Drillco®, pays tribute to this Andean animal known for thriving in remote and challenging environments, being agile, adaptable, and highly reliable. The colors of our products, the burgundy of our bits, and the beige of our hammers, are a tribute to the colors of our mountain range, the major mineral provider in Latin America.
Science to Business
Today, Drillco® has a Research and Development (R&D) Center located in England, from where Applied Research projects are led in conjunction with universities in the UK, France, and Chile.
At the heart of our company lies the entrepreneurial spirit, a legacy of our ancestors. This spirit has been channeled into a constant pursuit of solving technical challenges in a unique way, creating solutions that have a positive impact on our clients and their operations. Since the 1990s, the company has maintained ongoing collaborations with universities to develop technologies for the drilling industry, staying at the forefront of scientific knowledge.
